1920 x 1080 pixels: uses, aspect ratio and how to resize
What is 1920×1080 (Full HD 1080p)?
1920 × 1080 is Full HD or 1080p, the most widespread screen and video resolution in the world: most monitors, TVs, projectors and laptops use it, and it is the standard frame of online video. It is also the usual export size for 16:9 slides in PowerPoint and Google Slides and the commonly recommended size for Zoom and Microsoft Teams virtual backgrounds.
At a glance: 1920 × 1080 pixels, aspect ratio 16:9, 2,073,600 pixels in total (about 2.07 megapixels). The tool opens with exactly this size preset and the Crop to fill mode selected, so most images need no extra settings.
How to resize an image to 1920×1080
- Add your images. Drop them on the upload area, click to choose files or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP, TIFF and SVG are accepted, many files at once (up to 80 MB each).
- Check the framing. The size is preset to 1920 × 1080 with Crop to fill: the frame is filled edge to edge and whatever does not fit is trimmed. Use Keep (center, top, bottom, left or right) to choose which part survives, or switch to Fit with background or Stretch.
- Pick format and quality. Keep the original format or convert to JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF. The quality slider starts at 90%; alternatively set a Target size in KB and the tool lowers only the quality, never the 1920×1080 dimensions.
- Compare. Drag the before/after slider across the preview to check sharpness and framing.
- Download. Save each image, or click Download all (ZIP) for a batch. Files are named name-1920x1080 automatically; the pattern and a DPI value can be changed under More options.
Where 1920×1080 is used
- Desktop wallpapers for Full HD monitors, laptops and TVs
- 16:9 presentation slides and slide images
- Virtual backgrounds for Zoom, Teams and other video calls
- Stills, title cards and Twitch or stream overlays at 1080p
Images with a different aspect ratio
This page starts in Crop to fill, because wallpapers and slides must be covered edge to edge. A 16:9 image simply scales; 4:3 phone photos lose part of the top and bottom, and portrait photos a lot more. Use Keep: top for people, or switch to Fit with background to keep everything with coloured bars. For example, a 4:3 phone photo (4032 × 3024) set to 1920×1080 with Crop to fill loses about 25% of its height (top and bottom edges); with Fit with background it becomes 1440 × 1080 px with bars of about 240 px on the left and right.
Tips for a sharp 1920×1080 result
A 12-megapixel phone photo has plenty of pixels for 1080p, so quality stays high. A 1280 × 720 image enlarged to 1080p gains nothing in detail and looks softer. For a video-call background, remember that apps may mirror your preview, so check text in the recording, not the preview. JPG at 85 to 90% usually weighs 300 to 800 KB; Target size can push it lower.
Free, private and made for batches
Everything happens in your browser: your images are never uploaded, location and camera data (EXIF) are removed from every result, and there is no sign-up, watermark or daily limit. Need a neighbouring size? Try 2560×1440 or 1280×720; the 16:9 image resizer keeps any picture in the same proportions at a size you choose, and the image compressor shrinks the file further if a website or email still rejects it.
1920 × 1080 or 1080 × 1920?
Both sizes have the same 2,073,600 pixels, turned 90 degrees. 1920 × 1080 is landscape 16:9: monitors, TVs, YouTube videos and slides. 1080 × 1920 is portrait 9:16, the full screen vertical format of phone wallpapers, Instagram Stories and Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. This page makes the landscape version; for a vertical image, type 1080 and 1920 into the custom size resizer.

Can I make a portrait photo 1920x1080 without cropping?
Yes. Choose Fit with background: the whole photo is placed in the middle and the sides are filled with the colour you pick, or transparency in PNG or WebP.
Are my images uploaded to a server?

How big is a 1920x1080 image file?
It holds 2,073,600 pixels (about 2.1 megapixels). As a JPG at 90% quality a typical photo comes out at a few hundred KB, usually under 1 MB; screenshots with flat colours stay small as PNG, while a PNG of a detailed photo can reach several MB. If a form has a size limit, switch to Target size and type it in KB.
How do I make a 1080x1920 vertical image?
Open the custom size resizer, enter 1080 as the width and 1920 as the height, then choose Crop to fill to trim a landscape photo or Fit with background to keep all of it with bars above and below.
