How to resize a photo to 100x100 online
100×100 pixels is the classic small avatar size. Forums, comment sections, chat tools and member directories often display profile pictures at about this size, and many forum and CMS avatar settings cap uploads at 100 pixels or less. It also works for tiny list thumbnails, email-signature headshots and small logo badges: places where a light, fast-loading file matters more than fine detail. At this size every pixel counts, so the way you crop matters more than the quality of the source.
A 100 × 100 image holds 10,000 pixels (0.01 MP). Saved as a JPG at the default 90% quality, a typical photo at this size weighs roughly 2 to 5 KB; logos and flat graphics are usually lighter. In print, 100 pixels span 0.33 in (0.8 cm) at 300 DPI, or 0.67 in (1.7 cm) at 150 DPI.
What 100 × 100 pixels is used for
- Forum and comment avatars: fits boards and comment plugins that limit avatars to 100 px.
- Email signatures: a 100 px headshot or logo keeps the signature light in every mail client.
- List and table thumbnails: product rows, member lists and search results in admin panels and apps.
- Strict upload forms: portals and intranets that ask for exactly 100 × 100 px.
How to resize an image to 100 × 100 pixels
- Drop your images on the box, click to choose them, or paste one with Ctrl+V (JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG; up to 80 MB each).
- The size is preset to 100 × 100 px with Crop to fill; choose which part to keep (center, top, bottom, left or right) or switch to Fit with background or Stretch.
- Pick the format: Original, JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF (in browsers that can encode it), and set the quality, or switch to Target size and enter a limit in KB.
- Drag the before/after slider on the preview; every change is re-rendered live.
- Click Download, or Download all (ZIP) for several files, named like photo-100x100.jpg.
Turning a non-square photo into 100 × 100
Phone and camera photos are usually 4:3 or 3:2, so a square needs a decision. Take a 4000 × 3000 shot: Crop to fill scales it to 133 × 100 and trims about 17 px from the left and right edges. Fit with background keeps the whole picture at 100 × 75 and fills 13 px above and below with white, black, grey, any colour or transparency (PNG, WebP, AVIF). Stretch squeezes it to 100 × 100, which distorts faces, so keep it for images that are almost square already. With Fit, the Don't enlarge smaller images option centres a small source at its own size instead of blowing it up.
Tips for 100 × 100 images
- Crop tight around the face: at 100 px a head-and-shoulders framing reads far better than a full-body shot. Use the Top position for portraits so the head is not cut off.
- Where the avatar is shown at 100 CSS pixels on a phone or retina screen, upload 200×200 instead; the platform scales it down and it stays sharp.
- Thin lines and small text vanish at this size. Use a simplified or bolder version of your logo and save it as PNG to keep the edges clean.
Everything runs in your browser: images are never uploaded, and there is no account, no watermark and no limit on the number of files. Under More options you can write a DPI value into JPG and PNG files or change the file-name pattern, and location and camera data (EXIF) are always removed. Frequently asked questions
What is a 100x100 image used for?
Mainly small profile pictures, forum and comment avatars, list thumbnails and email-signature photos. It is too small for social media posts and practically useless for print (about 0.8 cm at 300 DPI).
Is 100x100 big enough for a profile picture?
Only where the site displays avatars at 100 px or less. Networks such as X and LinkedIn recommend 400×400 uploads and downscale them themselves, so use a larger size there.
How many KB is a 100x100 image?
Usually only about 2 to 5 KB as a JPG and a little more as PNG. If a form needs an even smaller file, switch to Target size and type the limit in KB.
How do I resize a photo to 100x100 without cropping it?
Choose Fit with background. The whole photo is scaled to fit inside 100 × 100 px and the empty space is filled with a colour you choose, or left transparent when you save as PNG, WebP or AVIF.
What size is 100x100 pixels in inches or cm?
At 300 DPI it prints at 0.33 × 0.33 in (0.8 × 0.8 cm); at 150 DPI at 0.67 × 0.67 in (1.7 cm). On screen only pixels count; DPI matters for printing and can be set under More options.
Can I resize multiple images to 100x100 at once?
Yes. Add as many images as you like (they all get the same settings) then download them one by one or together as a ZIP file.
