How to remove the background from an image
This free AI background remover lets you remove the background from an image in a few seconds. A segmentation model finds the person, product, pet or object and cuts it out, so you get a clean transparent PNG or the subject on a new background. The AI runs in your browser: your photos are never uploaded to a server.
How to remove the background from an image
- Drop one or more photos on the page, pick them from your device or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
- The first time, the AI model downloads once and is then cached by your browser. Each photo then takes a few seconds.
- Compare the result with the before and after slider. Use Erase and Restore to fix any spot the AI missed.
- Choose a background: transparent, a color, a blurred copy of the original or your own photo.
- Download as PNG, WebP or JPG, or download every image at once as a ZIP.
Three AI models: pick speed or detail
You choose how much detail the AI works with. All three models run on your device and are free for commercial use.
| Model | Download (once) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Quick | 6 MB | Portraits and people, the fastest option |
| Standard | 42 MB | Any subject: people, products, pets, cars |
| Best quality | 109 MB | The finest edges and hair; needs WebGPU (Chrome or Edge) |
Transparent background or a new one
- Transparent: a PNG or WebP with no background, ready for logos, stickers, slides and design tools.
- Color: eight quick colors such as white and black, or any custom color. White is the usual choice for product photos.
- Blur: keeps your real background but blurs it from 4 to 40 px, like a portrait mode photo.
- Image: place the subject on any photo of your own.
The Edge softness slider (0 to 6 px) smooths the outline so the cut does not look hard, and Crop to subject trims the empty space around the cutout with 0 to 30 percent padding.
Fix the edges by hand
Hair, glass and fine details are the hardest part for any background remover. If something is left behind or cut away, open the editor and paint over it: Erase removes leftovers, Restore brings back parts of the subject. The brush size goes from 5 to 120 px and Undo keeps the last 20 strokes.
Many photos at once
Add as many images as you like; they are processed one after the other with the same model and settings. When they are done, Download all saves a ZIP file with every cutout. Large photos are scaled to at most 4096 px on the longest side.
What people use it for
- Product photos for Amazon, Etsy, Shopify or eBay on a clean white background.
- Profile pictures and avatars with a color or blur behind you.
- Passport and ID photos that need a plain background.
- Logos, signatures and stickers with a transparent background.
- Thumbnails, slides and social posts where the subject sits on a new design.
Tips for the cleanest cutout
- Use a photo where the subject is in focus and clearly separated from the background; strong contrast helps the AI most.
- For hair, fur and fine edges, switch to the Best quality model in Chrome or Edge.
- Set Edge softness to 1 or 2 px when you place the subject on a new background, so the outline blends in.
- Use Crop to subject with a little padding for product photos and stickers, so every image has the same framing.
Private by design
Most online background removers upload your photo to their server. Here the AI model downloads to your browser and does all the work on your device, so private photos stay private. It is free, with no sign up and no watermark, and it keeps working offline once the model is cached.
Next steps: put your cutout in a round frame with the profile picture maker, make a passport photo on a white background, or enlarge a small cutout with the image upscaler.

Frequently asked questions
How do I remove the background from an image for free?
Drop your photo on this page and the AI cuts out the subject in a few seconds. Keep the background transparent or pick a color, blur or photo, then download a PNG, WebP or JPG. It is free with no sign up and no watermark.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The AI model downloads to your browser once and removes the background on your device, so your photos never leave it. That also means it keeps working offline after the first run.
Why does the first image take longer?
The first time, your browser downloads the AI model: 6 MB for Quick, 42 MB for Standard or 109 MB for Best quality. It is then cached, so the next images start right away.
How do I get a transparent PNG?
Leave the background on Transparent and download as PNG or WebP. Both keep the transparency; JPG does not support it and fills the background with white.
Can I fix areas the AI got wrong?
Yes. Open the editor and use Erase to remove leftovers or Restore to bring back parts of the subject, with a brush from 5 to 120 px and Undo for the last 20 strokes.
Which model should I choose?
Quick is best for portraits, Standard works for any subject and is the default, and Best quality gives the finest hair and edges but needs WebGPU, which Chrome and Edge support.
Can I remove backgrounds from many photos at once?
Yes. Add several images and they are processed one after another with the same settings. Download all saves every result in one ZIP file.
