How to make a passport photo online
The Passport Photo Maker turns an ordinary portrait into a passport, visa or ID photo at the exact size a country asks for. Pick the country, line your face up with the on-screen guides and download a JPG at the right pixel dimensions, or a 4×6 inch print sheet you can take to any photo shop. Everything happens in your browser, so your face never leaves your device.
Supported photo sizes
- United States: 2×2 inches (51×51 mm), 600×600 px, white or off-white background.
- United Kingdom, India, Australia, Japan and the EU/Schengen area: 35×45 mm, 413×531 px.
- Canada: 50×70 mm, 590×827 px.
- China: 33×48 mm, 390×567 px.
- A generic 35×45 mm option for other forms that use the common international size.
All sizes are rendered at 300 DPI, and the panel beside the preview lists the key rules for the selected country, such as head height, expression and background colour.
How to make a passport photo
- Upload a clear, front-facing photo taken in good light against a plain wall.
- Choose your country or region with the quick buttons or the drop-down list.
- Use the zoom slider (0.5 to 3x) and the X and Y sliders until your face sits inside the red oval and your eyes are close to the yellow eye-level line.
- Fine-tune brightness and contrast if the picture looks too dark or flat, and pick a white, grey, blue or custom fill colour for any empty space around the photo.
- Click Generate Photo for a single image, or Generate Print Sheet for a 4×6 inch sheet with dashed cut lines, then download it.
Tips for a photo that gets accepted
- Stand about a metre from a plain, light wall and face a window so there are no shadows on your face or behind you.
- Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed, remove glasses and hats, and make sure both eyes are clearly visible.
- The background colour only fills gaps when you zoom out; it does not replace the wall behind you. If your background is cluttered, clean it up first with the ID photo background changer or the AI background remover.
- Many online visa and passport portals limit the file size. If yours does, run the downloaded JPG through compress image to 50KB.
- Print the sheet at 100% scale (no fit-to-page) on glossy or matte photo paper. A 35×45 mm or 2×2 inch sheet holds six photos; China's size fits nine and Canada's four.
Why use this passport photo maker
Photo booths and pharmacy counters charge for something you can do in two minutes with a phone camera. This tool is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. Because the cropping runs locally on a canvas in your browser, your ID photo is never uploaded, stored or seen by anyone else. The dimensions come from each country's published specification, but rules do change, so always double-check the official guidance of the office that will receive your photo before you submit it.

Frequently asked questions
What size is a passport photo?
It depends on the country. The US uses 2×2 inches (51×51 mm, 600×600 px at 300 DPI); the UK, India, Australia, Japan and Schengen countries use 35×45 mm; Canada uses 50×70 mm and China 33×48 mm. Pick the country and the tool applies the right size.
Can I print passport photos at home or at a photo shop?
Yes. Click Generate Print Sheet to get a 4×6 inch (10×15 cm) JPG at 300 DPI with several photos and dashed cut lines. Print it at actual size on photo paper, then cut along the lines.
Does the tool remove or replace my background?
No. The background colour only fills the empty space around your photo when you zoom out. To swap a busy background for plain white or blue, use the ID Photo Background Changer first, then come back here.
Will my photo be accepted?
The tool gives you the correct dimensions and guides, but acceptance also depends on lighting, expression, glasses and how recent the photo is. Check the rules listed for your country and your authority's official guidance.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The photo is cropped and drawn on a canvas inside your browser, and the JPG is created on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
What file do I get?
A high-quality JPG at the exact pixel size of the chosen country, or a 1200×1800 px JPG print sheet. If an online form needs a smaller file, compress the JPG afterwards.
