How to Create a Favicon for Your Website
The WoowTools Favicon Generator turns one logo or image into the complete set of icons a modern website needs: the small PNG favicons shown in browser tabs, Apple touch icons for iPhone and iPad home screens, and Android Chrome icons for Progressive Web Apps. Download each icon separately or everything at once as a ZIP that also contains a ready-made manifest.json and an HTML snippet with the link tags to paste into your page head. It all runs in your browser, so your logo is never uploaded.
Favicon sizes you can generate
- 16×16 and 32×32: browser tabs, bookmarks and history (standard and retina).
- 48×48 and 64×64: Windows site icons and taskbar.
- 96×96: Google TV; 128×128: Chrome Web Store.
- 152×152, 167×167 and 180×180: Apple touch icons for iPad, iPad Pro and iPhone.
- 192×192 and 512×512: Android Chrome and PWA install icons.
Seven sizes are pre-selected (16, 32, 48, 152, 180, 192 and 512), which covers virtually every site. Tick or untick any size, or use Select All and Deselect All.
How to create a favicon
- Upload your logo or icon as PNG, JPG, SVG, WebP or another image format (up to 10 MB). A square image of at least 512×512 pixels gives the sharpest results.
- Choose a background colour. It fills transparent areas and any empty space around a non-square logo. Pick white, black, blue, green, amber or red with one click, or enter any colour.
- Select the sizes you need and click generate. Each icon appears with a preview so you can check how it reads at tiny sizes.
- Download single PNGs, or click download all to get favicons.zip.
- Upload the files to your site's root folder and paste the lines from html-snippet.html into the <head> of your pages.
What is inside the ZIP
The ZIP contains every PNG you generated with conventional file names (for example favicon-32x32.png, apple-touch-icon-180x180.png and android-chrome-512x512.png), a manifest.json that lists the Android icons and uses your background colour as theme and background colour, and an HTML snippet with link tags for the 16, 32, 180, 192 and 512 pixel icons, the manifest and a theme-color meta tag. Edit the app name in manifest.json before publishing.
Tips for a favicon that looks good
- Simplify. A full logo with a slogan becomes an unreadable blur at 16 px. Use just the symbol or the first letter, and check the 16 and 32 px previews.
- Start square. The image is scaled to fit inside the square and centred, keeping its proportions. Crop a wide logo to a square first with the image cropper so it fills the icon.
- Vector logo? Export it to a large PNG with the SVG to PNG converter before generating.
- Choose the background deliberately. The generated icons have a solid background, so pick a colour that matches your brand or looks good on both light and dark browser themes.
Why use this favicon generator
It is free, needs no account and adds no branding to your icons. Because every size is drawn on a canvas in your own browser, your unreleased logo stays on your machine and the whole set is ready in a second.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a favicon for my website?
Upload a square logo, choose a background colour and the sizes you need, generate and download the ZIP. Upload the PNG files to your site and paste the included HTML snippet into the page head.
What size should a favicon be?
Browsers use 16×16 and 32×32 px in tabs, iOS uses a 180×180 px apple-touch-icon and Android uses 192×192 and 512×512 px. This tool generates all of these from one image.
Does this tool create a favicon.ico file?
No. It generates PNG favicons, which all modern browsers support through the link tags in the included HTML snippet.
Is a manifest.json included?
Yes. The ZIP contains a manifest.json listing the Android icons, with your background colour as theme colour. Change the app name before you publish it.
Can the favicon have a transparent background?
The generator fills transparent areas with the background colour you choose, so the icons always have a solid background that stays visible in light and dark browser themes.
What image works best?
A simple, square logo or symbol of at least 512×512 pixels. Fine text and thin lines disappear at 16 pixels.
Is my logo uploaded to a server?
No. All icons are created in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
