How to crop an image online
Cropping removes what you do not want in a picture and changes its shape: cutting a person out of a group photo, straightening the focus onto a product, or turning a landscape shot into a square for a profile picture. The Image Cropper lets you do this visually, in your browser, without installing an editor.
Drag the crop box over the image and resize it from its edges, or type the crop width and height in pixels for an exact result. Aspect ratio presets lock the shape to Free, 1:1, 16:9, 4:3, 3:2, 21:9 or 9:16, so the box keeps the right proportions while you move it. The cropped image can be downloaded as PNG, JPG or WebP, with a quality setting for JPG and WebP. Images up to 20 MB are accepted.
How to use the Image Cropper
- Upload the image you want to crop (up to 20 MB).
- Choose an aspect ratio preset or keep Free, then drag the crop area into position and adjust its size.
- For exact output, enter the Crop Width and Crop Height in pixels.
- Pick the output format and quality, check the preview of the cropped image and download it.
Popular cropping tasks
- Profile pictures and avatars with a 1:1 square crop.
- Video thumbnails and banners in 16:9 or 21:9.
- Stories and reels in vertical 9:16.
- Prints in 3:2 or 4:3 to match common photo paper sizes.
Aspect ratios and where they are used
1:1 square: Instagram posts, avatars, product grids. 16:9: YouTube thumbnails, slides, widescreen wallpapers. 4:3: tablets, classic presentations, most phone photos. 3:2: DSLR photos and 6 × 4 inch prints. 21:9: ultra-wide banners and cinema-style images. 9:16: Stories, Reels, TikTok and phone wallpapers. Free mode lets you crop any shape.
Choosing the output format
Save as PNG when the crop contains text, screenshots or graphics and you want every pixel unchanged. Save photos as JPG for the widest compatibility, or as WebP for a smaller file on websites. For JPG and WebP, a quality of 85 to 92 keeps photos sharp while keeping the file reasonably small.
Cropping keeps the original pixel density of the part you select. If you need a fixed final size such as 1080 × 1080, crop first and then resize, or use a ready preset such as square 1:1 resize or custom image resize, which crop and resize in one step. To remove unwanted objects instead of cutting them away, the object remover can fill the area, and the background remover isolates the subject completely.

Frequently asked questions
How do I crop an image to a square?
Choose the 1:1 preset, drag the square over the part you want to keep and download the result.
Can I crop to exact pixel dimensions?
Yes. Enter the crop width and height in pixels.
Does cropping reduce quality?
Cropping itself does not reduce the quality of the pixels you keep. JPG and WebP output is re-encoded at the quality you choose; PNG is lossless.
Which formats can I download?
PNG, JPG or WebP.
Can I crop several images at once?
This cropper works on one image at a time. For batches with the same size, use custom image resize with Crop to fill.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed locally in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. Closing the tab discards your data.
