About this tool
A stranger in the background, a power line across the sky, a date stamp in the corner: this object remover erases them. Select what should go, and the tool fills the area with texture and color taken from the surrounding pixels, a technique called inpainting. Everything happens in your browser, so your photos stay private.
How to remove an object from a photo
- Upload your photo.
- Choose a selection mode: Brush to paint over the object, Lasso to draw around it, Rectangle for boxes like text, or Magic wand to click similar colored areas. Smart and Auto modes help select automatically.
- Adjust the brush size and type (soft, hard or fuzzy) and paint slightly beyond the object's edge.
- Pick a quality level: fast, balanced, high or ultra. Higher levels take longer and blend better.
- Run the removal, check the result against the original and download.
What works well
- Small objects on simple backgrounds: litter on grass, a bird in the sky, a sign on a plain wall.
- Blemishes and dust on portraits and scanned photos.
- Text, logos and date stamps in corners.
- Wires, poles and cables crossing sky or water.
What is harder
Large objects in front of detailed or patterned backgrounds, such as a person standing in front of a crowd or text over a face, leave the tool with little information about what was behind them. The fill will be plausible but may need a second pass or some cropping. Removing in several smaller passes usually gives better results than one big selection.
Tips
- Include the shadow of the object in your selection, or a floating shadow stays behind.
- Select a little extra around the edges so no outline remains.
- Use the high or ultra quality for final images and the fast level to test.
Only remove things you have the right to edit, and do not use it to remove watermarks from images you do not own. To change the whole background instead, use the background remover; to soften it, the background blur tool.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove a person from a photo?
Select the person with the brush or lasso, include their shadow, choose high quality and run the removal. Results are best when the background behind them is simple.
How does the tool fill the removed area?
It uses inpainting: the selected area is rebuilt from the colors and textures of the surrounding pixels, blended at the edges.
Does the object remover use AI?
No. It uses classic inpainting algorithms that run in your browser, so it works without uploading your photo to a cloud model.
Why does the result look smudged?
The area may be large or the background detailed. Remove the object in smaller passes, choose a higher quality level, or crop the photo afterwards.
Can I remove text or a date stamp?
Yes. Use the rectangle selection around the text and run the removal. It works best when the text sits on a plain or simple background.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. All processing happens in your browser.
