2048 x 1152 pixels: uses, aspect ratio and how to resize
What is 2048×1152 (QWXGA)?
2048 × 1152 is QWXGA, a 16:9 resolution of 2.36 megapixels that sits just above Full HD. It was the native mode of a handful of 23-inch monitors and is widely used for wallpapers and for images that need to be 2048 px wide, a width many platforms use as their upper limit. It is sometimes loosely called “2K”, but it is not DCI 2K cinema, which is 2048 × 1080.
At a glance: 2048 × 1152 pixels, aspect ratio 16:9, 2,359,296 pixels in total (about 2.36 megapixels). The tool opens with exactly this size preset and the Crop to fill mode selected, so most images need no extra settings.
How to resize an image to 2048×1152
- Add your images. Drop them on the upload area, click to choose files or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP, TIFF and SVG are accepted, many files at once (up to 80 MB each).
- Check the framing. The size is preset to 2048 × 1152 with Crop to fill: the frame is filled edge to edge and whatever does not fit is trimmed. Use Keep (center, top, bottom, left or right) to choose which part survives, or switch to Fit with background or Stretch.
- Pick format and quality. Keep the original format or convert to JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF. The quality slider starts at 90%; alternatively set a Target size in KB and the tool lowers only the quality, never the 2048×1152 dimensions.
- Compare. Drag the before/after slider across the preview to check sharpness and framing.
- Download. Save each image, or click Download all (ZIP) for a batch. Files are named name-2048x1152 automatically; the pattern and a DPI value can be changed under More options.
Where 2048×1152 is used
- Wallpapers slightly sharper than 1080p on 16:9 screens
- Images for platforms that cap uploads at 2048 px wide
- High-resolution 16:9 blog and portfolio images
- Frames for 16:9 content that will be viewed zoomed in
Images with a different aspect ratio
The page starts in Crop to fill. A 16:9 source fills 2048 × 1152 exactly; 4:3 photos are trimmed at the top and bottom, and Keep sets which part stays. Switch to Fit with background to keep a whole portrait or square image inside the frame. For example, a 4:3 phone photo (4032 × 3024) set to 2048×1152 with Crop to fill loses about 25% of its height (top and bottom edges); with Fit with background it becomes 1536 × 1152 px with bars of about 256 px on the left and right.
Tips for a sharp 2048×1152 result
A 1920 × 1080 source needs only a 7% enlargement to reach 2048 × 1152, which is barely visible, but a 1280 × 720 image would be stretched 60% and look blurry. For large galleries, WebP at 80% keeps files small; if a site recompresses uploads anyway, upload a JPG at 90% so its compression starts from a clean image.
Free, private and made for batches
Everything happens in your browser: your images are never uploaded, location and camera data (EXIF) are removed from every result, and there is no sign-up, watermark or daily limit. Need a neighbouring size? Try 1920×1080 or 2560×1440; the 16:9 image resizer keeps any picture in the same proportions at a size you choose, and the image compressor shrinks the file further if a website or email still rejects it.
