1280 x 800 pixels: uses, aspect ratio and how to resize

What is 1280×800 (WXGA 16:10)?

1280 × 800 is WXGA in the 16:10 shape. It was the native resolution of 13-inch laptops such as the pre-Retina MacBook and MacBook Pro, of tablets like the 2012 Nexus 7 and of countless business projectors, and it is the screen of the Steam Deck. Developers know it as the preferred screenshot size of the Chrome Web Store (1280 × 800, or 640 × 400).

At a glance: 1280 × 800 pixels, aspect ratio 16:10, 1,024,000 pixels in total (about 1.02 megapixels). The tool opens with exactly this size preset and the Fit with background mode selected, so most images need no extra settings.

How to resize an image to 1280×800

  1. Add your images. Drop them on the upload area, click to choose files or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP, TIFF and SVG are accepted, many files at once (up to 80 MB each).
  2. Check the framing. The size is preset to 1280 × 800 with Fit with background: the whole picture stays visible and empty space is filled with white, black, light grey, any colour you pick or transparency (PNG, WebP). Prefer no borders? Switch to Crop to fill and choose which part to keep.
  3. Pick format and quality. Keep the original format or convert to JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF. The quality slider starts at 90%; alternatively set a Target size in KB and the tool lowers only the quality, never the 1280×800 dimensions.
  4. Compare. Drag the before/after slider across the preview to check sharpness and framing.
  5. Download. Save each image, or click Download all (ZIP) for a batch. Files are named name-1280x800 automatically; the pattern and a DPI value can be changed under More options.

Where 1280×800 is used

  • Chrome Web Store screenshots for extensions and apps
  • Wallpapers and artwork for Steam Deck and 1280 × 800 tablets
  • Slides for WXGA projectors, common in classrooms
  • 16:10 screenshots of apps and websites for documentation

Images with a different aspect ratio

16:10 is slightly taller than 16:9. The default Fit with background mode puts a 16:9 screenshot into 1280 × 800 with thin bands of 40 px above and below; Crop to fill fills the frame by trimming about 10% of the width instead. For example, a 4:3 phone photo (4032 × 3024) set to 1280×800 with Crop to fill loses about 17% of its height (top and bottom edges); with Fit with background it becomes 1067 × 800 px with bars of about 107 px on the left and right.

Tips for a sharp 1280×800 result

For store listings, use PNG so interface text stays crisp and set a white or brand-coloured background in Fit mode rather than letting the store show gaps. Capture your screenshot at 2560 × 1600 on a Retina display and scale it here: exactly 50% keeps UI lines sharp. Keep the result under a store's file limit with Target size.

Free, private and made for batches

Everything happens in your browser: your images are never uploaded, location and camera data (EXIF) are removed from every result, and there is no sign-up, watermark or daily limit. Need a neighbouring size? Try 1680×1050 or 2560×1600; the custom image resizer handles any other width and height, and the image compressor shrinks the file further if a website or email still rejects it.

Frequently asked questions

What size are Chrome Web Store screenshots?

The Chrome Web Store asks for screenshots of 1280 × 800 pixels (or 640 × 400). This page resizes to exactly 1280 × 800.

What is the Steam Deck screen resolution?

The Steam Deck has a 1280 × 800 display, a 16:10 aspect ratio, so wallpapers and artwork at this size fill the screen without scaling.

What aspect ratio is 1280x800?

16:10 (1.6:1). It is a little taller than 16:9, which is why 16:9 images get thin bands in Fit mode or lose a slice of the sides in Crop mode.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Resizing to 1280×800 happens entirely in your browser, so your files never leave your device. Location and camera data (EXIF) are also removed from the output.

Can I resize many images to 1280×800 at once?

Yes. Add as many images as you like: each one is resized to 1280×800 with the same settings, and Download all saves them together as a ZIP file.

Is 1280x800 the same as 1280x720?

No. Both are 1280 pixels wide, but 1280x800 is 16:10 and 80 pixels taller, while 1280x720 (HD 720p) is 16:9. Turning a 1280x720 image into 1280x800 means cropping a little from the sides or adding bands above and below.

What is the difference between 1280x800 and 800x1280?

They hold the same number of pixels, but 1280x800 is landscape and 800x1280 is the same frame turned on its side. This page always outputs 1280 × 800; for 800 × 1280, enter the size in the custom size resizer.
