Resize Image to 1024x1024 Pixels

1024×1024 pixels is the size Apple requires for the App Store icon you upload in App Store Connect, and the standard square output of popular AI image generators such as DALL·E and Stable Diffusion XL. WordPress also caps its "large" image size at 1024 px. Because it is a power of two, it is a favourite for textures, sprites and anything that will be scaled down cleanly into smaller icon sizes.

A 1024 × 1024 image holds 1,048,576 pixels (1.05 MP). Saved as a JPG at the default 90% quality, a typical photo at this size weighs roughly 190 to 410 KB; logos and flat graphics are usually lighter. In print, 1024 pixels span 3.41 in (8.7 cm) at 300 DPI, or 6.83 in (17.3 cm) at 150 DPI.

What 1024 × 1024 pixels is used for

• App Store icon: the 1024 × 1024 px marketing icon required in App Store Connect (no transparency, no rounded corners: Apple adds them).
• AI image workflows: prepare reference or input images at the native 1024 px resolution of SDXL and DALL·E.
• WordPress large size: matches the default "large" image (1024 px max).
• Game and 3D textures: power-of-two squares that mipmap cleanly.

How to resize an image to 1024 × 1024 pixels

1. Drop your images on the box, click to choose them, or paste one with Ctrl+V (JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG; up to 80 MB each).
2. The size is preset to 1024 × 1024 px with Crop to fill; choose which part to keep (center, top, bottom, left or right) or switch to Fit with background or Stretch.
3. Pick the format: Original, JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF (in browsers that can encode it), and set the quality, or switch to Target size and enter a limit in KB.
4. Drag the before/after slider on the preview; every change is re-rendered live.
5. Click Download, or Download all (ZIP) for several files, named like photo-1024x1024.jpg.

Turning a non-square photo into 1024 × 1024

Phone and camera photos are usually 4:3 or 3:2, so a square needs a decision. Take a 4000 × 3000 shot: Crop to fill scales it to 1365 × 1024 and trims about 171 px from the left and right edges. Fit with background keeps the whole picture at 1024 × 768 and fills 128 px above and below with white, black, grey, any colour or transparency (PNG, WebP, AVIF). Stretch squeezes it to 1024 × 1024, which distorts faces, so keep it for images that are almost square already. With Fit, the Don't enlarge smaller images option centres a small source at its own size instead of blowing it up.

Tips for 1024 × 1024 images

• Apple rejects App Store icons with an alpha channel: save as JPG, or as PNG with a solid background via Fit with background.
• Design the icon edge to edge: iOS applies the rounded mask itself, so do not draw your own corners.
• Resize from a larger original whenever possible; upscaling a 512 px icon to 1024 px makes it soft.
