How to make a photo collage online
The WoowTools Collage Maker turns a handful of photos into a single, balanced picture you can post, print or send. Pick one of 19 layouts: from a simple two-photo split to a nine-photo grid, a magazine page or a filmstrip; choose the shape of the canvas, fine-tune the gaps and background, and download the finished collage as a sharp PNG. Everything is drawn on a canvas inside your browser, so your photos never leave your device.
How to make a photo collage
- Drag your photos onto the upload box or click it to pick several files at once (JPG, PNG, WebP and any other image your browser can open).
- Choose a layout. Each layout shows how many photos it needs; layouts that need more photos than you have added are greyed out until you add more.
- Pick an aspect ratio: Square (1200 × 1200), Standard 4:3 (1200 × 900), Wide 16:9 (1600 × 900), Story 9:16 (900 × 1600), Portrait 2:3 (1200 × 1800) or Photo 3:2 (1800 × 1200).
- Adjust the spacing between tiles (0 to 50 px) and set the background: a solid color, a two-color gradient or a soft blurred version of your first photo.
- Optionally switch on a drop shadow behind each tile or add a one-line caption, then click Create Collage and download the PNG.
Layouts for every kind of story
The layouts fall into a few families. Grids (2, 3, 4, 6 and 9 photos) give every picture equal weight, which suits product ranges and family snapshots. Featured layouts such as Hero + 2, Hero Left, Hero Right and Spotlight make one photo large and keep the others as supporting details: ideal for a trip where one view stole the show. Magazine, Stack 3 and Pyramid build editorial-style pages, while Filmstrip, Polaroid, Mosaic, Overlap, Story and Checker (8 photos) add a more playful rhythm.
Photos fill the slots in the order you uploaded them, and each one is scaled to cover its slot and centred, so nothing is stretched. If an important detail sits near the edge of a photo, crop it first with the Image Cropper so it lands in the middle of the tile.
Tips for a clean collage
- Fewer, stronger photos. Three or four well-chosen images usually read better than nine small ones.
- Match the ratio to the platform. Square for Instagram feed posts, 9:16 Story for stories and reels covers, 16:9 for YouTube banners or slides. If you need an exact pixel size afterwards, run the PNG through the 1080 × 1080 resizer.
- Use spacing as a design tool. 0 px gives a seamless mosaic; 15 to 30 px with a white background looks like a printed photo board.
- Rounded corners are unlocked by moving the Border slider above zero; the Radius slider then rounds each tile by up to 50 px.
- The Blur background works best when your first photo has strong colors: it frames the collage in matching tones.
Want to go the other way and cut one wide photo into equal tiles for an Instagram grid? Use the Photo Splitter. To place photos side by side at their full size instead of in a layout, try Photo Stitch.
Why use this collage maker
There is no account, no watermark and no upload: the collage is assembled locally with the HTML canvas, which also makes previews update instantly as you move sliders. The output is a lossless PNG at the full canvas size you chose, ready for social media, a blog header or a printed card. When you are done, Create New clears the workspace so you can start the next collage right away.

Frequently asked questions
How many photos can I put in one collage?
Layouts hold between 2 and 9 photos. The 9 Grid uses nine, Checker uses eight and Mosaic uses seven. You can upload more, but only as many as the chosen layout has slots will appear.
Why are some layouts greyed out?
A layout is disabled until you have added at least as many photos as it has slots. Add more photos with the Add More button and it becomes available.
Is the collage maker free and without watermark?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark or logo to your collage.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The collage is drawn on a canvas in your browser and the PNG is generated on your device, so your photos stay private.
What size is the finished collage?
It matches the aspect ratio you pick, for example 1200 × 1200 px for Square, 1600 × 900 px for Wide or 900 × 1600 px for Story, and it is saved as a PNG.
Can I change the order of the photos?
Photos fill the slots in the order you added them. To change the order, remove a photo and add it again, or upload the files in the order you want.
What is the best collage size for Instagram?
Use the Square ratio for feed posts and Story (9:16) for stories. If you need exactly 1080 × 1080 px, resize the downloaded PNG afterwards.
