1080 x 1350 pixels: uses, aspect ratio and how to resize
1080 × 1350 pixels is the 4:5 portrait format for Instagram feed posts. Instagram displays feed images 1080 pixels wide, and a 4:5 portrait is taller than a square, so it takes up more of the screen as people scroll. This resizer produces that exact size from any photo: it scales the image, trims the edges that do not fit the 4:5 frame and saves a ready-to-post file. It runs completely in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded anywhere.
How to resize a photo to 1080x1350
- Drop your photos onto the page, click to browse, or paste an image with Ctrl+V. iPhone HEIC photos work as well as JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF and SVG (up to 80 MB each).
- The canvas is set to 1080 × 1350 with Crop to fill. Choose which part to keep with Center, Top, Bottom, Left or Right.
- If nothing may be cut off, pick Fit with background: the whole photo is placed inside the 4:5 frame with white, black, grey or any colour you choose around it.
- Keep the original format or choose JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF, and set the quality (90% by default).
- Check the before/after slider, then download one image or a ZIP of the whole set.
How much of your photo survives the crop
The result depends on the shape of the original. A vertical phone photo (3:4, such as 3024 × 4032) is only slightly too tall, so a thin strip is removed from the top and bottom. A horizontal photo (4:3 or 3:2) loses a lot from the sides: from a 6000 × 4000 camera shot, only about the central half of the width is kept. For landscape shots it is often better to use Fit with background, or post them in a 1080x1080 square instead.
Remember that your profile grid shows a smaller, cropped preview of each post rather than the full 4:5 frame, so keep faces and key products near the centre. Text placed close to the top or bottom edge can disappear in that preview.
Practical tips for Instagram portraits
- Upload images that are at least 1080 px wide. Smaller photos are enlarged by default; tick Don't enlarge smaller images to avoid soft, upscaled results.
- JPG at 85 to 90% quality is a good choice for Instagram, which recompresses every upload anyway. There is no benefit in sending a huge PNG.
- Resizing a carousel? Add all slides at once. Each one gets the same size and crop settings, so the swipe looks consistent, and the ZIP keeps the file names in order with the {name}-{w}x{h} pattern.
- Camera and GPS data (EXIF) are stripped from every result, which is useful before sharing photos publicly.
Why resize here
The tool is free, has no sign-up and adds no watermark. Processing on your device keeps personal photos private and makes batch resizing fast. You can also change the width and height, switch to exact-fit or max-size modes, or set a target file size in KB if another platform has an upload limit.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1080x1350 size used for?
It is the 4:5 portrait size for Instagram feed posts. Portrait posts are taller than squares, so they fill more of the screen in the feed.
Is 1080x1350 the same as 4:5?
Yes. 1080 divided by 1350 equals 0.8, which is exactly a 4:5 ratio.
Why does Instagram crop my portrait photo?
Instagram crops feed photos that are taller than its supported portrait ratio. Resizing to 1080x1350 first lets you choose the crop yourself.
How do I post a landscape photo in 4:5 without cropping?
Choose Fit with background. The whole photo is placed in the 1080 × 1350 frame and the empty space is filled with a colour you pick.
Can I resize all the photos of a carousel at once?
Yes. Add them together, and every image gets the same size and settings; download them as a ZIP.
Does this tool upload my photos?
No. Everything is processed in your browser, and EXIF location data is removed from the results.
What is the difference between 1080x1350 and 1350x1080?
They hold the same number of pixels, but 1080x1350 is portrait and 1350x1080 is the same frame turned on its side. This page always outputs 1080 × 1350; for 1350 × 1080, enter the size in the custom size resizer.
