How to compress an image to 30 KB online

30 KB is a sweet spot for forms that accept photos between 20 and 50 KB: it sits safely inside the range, far from both the minimum and the maximum, and it still gives a face photo enough bytes to look clear. This page is preset to 30 KB, so any JPG, PNG or phone picture you drop in comes back just under 30 KB.

Where a 30 KB limit shows up

  • Recruitment and admission forms that accept photos between 20 and 50 KB
  • Employee ID cards, library cards and visitor passes
  • School, college and university student portals
  • Profile photos for internal HR and attendance systems

How to compress a photo to 30 KB

  1. Drop your photos on the upload box, click to choose files, or paste an image with Ctrl+V. The target is already set to 30 KB.
  2. Crop to head and shoulders first if the form asks for a passport-style photo, or enter the required size under Resize → Exact.
  3. Each image is compressed automatically; the file list shows the new size next to the original.
  4. Drag the before/after slider to check the quality. The result line shows the new dimensions, the file size and the JPG quality that was used.
  5. Click Download, or Download all (ZIP) when you compressed several images.

What fits in 30 KB

With 30 KB you can keep a face photo at about 300 × 400 px with good detail, or up to roughly 400 × 500 px if the background is plain. A larger original, such as a 3000 px phone photo, is first compressed with lower JPG quality and then scaled down only as far as needed. JPG is the right choice for almost every portal in this size range. If you are producing ID-card images for your own system and it accepts WebP, switching Format to WebP gives the same quality in fewer bytes.

Behind the scenes the tool does not guess. If your photo is over 30 KB, it runs a quick search for the highest JPG quality (up to 80%) that still lands under the limit, keeping about 1.5% headroom so the portal's own byte count never tips it over. Only when even 35% quality is too big does it scale the width and height down, step by step, and search again. If you set an exact pixel size under Resize, the dimensions are never changed: the quality may go lower instead, and a warning appears if 30 KB cannot be reached at that size.

Tips for the best result at 30 KB

  • Keep a plain, light background: flat areas compress much better than busy ones, so the face stays sharper at the same 30 KB.
  • Shoot in soft, even light; noise from a dark room costs bytes and shows up as blotches after compression.
  • Compressing 20 ID photos at once? Drop them all together and download a single ZIP.

Private, free and unlimited

Everything runs in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded, camera and location data (EXIF) are removed from every result, and there is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.

Background not plain enough? Swap it with the ID photo background changer, frame the face with the image cropper, or go down to 20 KB if the form is stricter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a photo to 30 KB?

Drop the photo on this page. The target is preset to 30 KB, and the tool finds the highest quality that fits. Click Download to save the JPG.

Why choose 30 KB when the form allows 20 to 50 KB?

It leaves a margin on both sides of the range, so the file is accepted even if the portal counts kilobytes slightly differently, while the photo still looks clear.

What resolution can a 30 KB photo have?

Around 300 × 400 px keeps good detail for a face. Larger dimensions are possible, but the tool will then lower the quality or shrink the image to stay under 30 KB.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The compression runs entirely in your browser, so your images never leave your device. Camera and location data (EXIF) are also removed from the result.

Which image formats can I compress?

The file picker accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP; iPhone HEIC and TIFF files can be dragged onto the page. The 30 KB result is a JPG by default; you can switch to WebP or PNG under Format.
