How to compress multiple images at once

Compressing images one by one is slow and error-prone, especially when a product catalogue, a holiday album or a website migration involves hundreds of files. The Bulk Image Compressor takes a whole selection at once, applies the same quality, size and format settings to every image, and gives you one ZIP with all the results.

Each file keeps its format by default: JPG stays JPG, WebP stays WebP and PNG is reduced with a smart colour palette while transparency is kept. Quality starts at 80, a level where photos look unchanged at normal size but typically lose a large part of their weight. The list shows every file's new size and saving, so you can spot the few images that need a different setting.

How to use the Bulk Image Compressor

  1. Drop your images onto the upload area, click it to choose files, or paste an image with Ctrl+V. This page accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP files, many at once and up to 80 MB each.
  2. Adjust the quality for the whole batch, or switch to Target size to keep every file under a limit such as 200 KB; each image gets the highest quality that still fits.
  3. To shrink oversized photos too, open Resize and choose Max with a width such as 1920 pixels. Smaller images are never enlarged.
  4. Check the result with the before/after slider: drag the divider across the preview and read the new dimensions, file size, quality and percentage saved underneath. Any change to the settings re-processes every image automatically.
  5. Download a single image, or use Download all (ZIP) for the whole batch. Under More options you can also set a DPI value and a file-name pattern with {name}, {w} and {h}.

Typical bulk compression jobs

  • Photo albums for sharing. Shrink dozens of phone photos so they fit into an email, a chat or a cloud quota.
  • Converting while compressing. Pick WebP under Format to convert and compress the whole batch in one step.
  • Resizing a batch. If you mainly need new dimensions, the bulk image resizer is set up for that.

Choosing settings for a mixed batch

One setting rarely fits every image perfectly, but a few rules make batches predictable. Photos tolerate quality 70 to 80 well, screenshots and graphics with text look better at 85 to 90, and PNG logos usually stay clean with a 128- or 256-colour palette. If a batch mixes both kinds, compress the photos and the graphics in two runs, or use Target size so each file finds its own quality.

Very large batches depend on your device's memory. If the browser slows down, split the folder into groups of 50 to 100 images and run them one after another.

Private, free and fast

The whole job runs in your browser: images are decoded, resized and re-encoded on your own device, so nothing is uploaded to a server. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit, and location and camera data (EXIF) are removed from every result.

Frequently asked questions

How many images can I compress at once?

There is no fixed limit; each file can be up to 80 MB. The practical limit is your device's memory, so split very large folders into smaller batches.

Do all images get the same quality?

Yes, the chosen quality applies to every file. In Target size mode each image instead gets the highest quality that fits the limit.

Will my PNG files lose transparency?

No. PNG files stay PNG and keep their alpha channel; they are reduced to a colour palette unless you set quality to 100.

Can I download all compressed images together?

Yes. Download all (ZIP) packs every result into one file; individual downloads are available too.

Are my original files changed?

No. The tool creates new files for download and never modifies the originals on your device.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The images are processed locally in your browser and never leave your device. Closing the tab discards them.
