How to convert WebP to PNG online
This tool converts WebP images into PNG files while keeping transparent backgrounds intact. It is the right choice when you want to edit a web graphic in a design program, place a logo in a document, or need a lossless copy that will not degrade when you save it again.
What is a WebP file?
WebP is Google's modern web image format, designed to replace both JPG and PNG on websites. Some older software, print services, office programs and upload forms still refuse WebP files. WebP is the go-to format for lighter pages and better Core Web Vitals scores. WebP supports lossy and lossless compression, full transparency and animation in a single format.
Why choose PNG?
PNG is a lossless format: pixels are stored exactly, so text, lines and flat colours stay razor-sharp. PNG supports full alpha transparency, which is why logos, icons, interface elements and cut-outs are usually saved as PNG. PNG files of photographs are large, often three to ten times bigger than a good JPG of the same picture. Every browser, operating system and image editor reads PNG, so it is a safe exchange format.
What changes when you convert WebP to PNG
PNG supports the same alpha transparency as WebP, so cut-outs and soft shadows come through unchanged. What you control is how the PNG is written: at 100% quality the file is fully lossless and every pixel matches the decoded WebP; at the default 90% the tool applies smart palette compression with up to 256 colours, which keeps transparency and produces much smaller files for icons and flat graphics but can cause slight banding in photos. Note that detail already discarded by a lossy WebP cannot be restored: the PNG preserves exactly what the WebP shows.
How to convert WebP to PNG
- Drop your WebP files onto the upload area, click to browse, or paste an image with Ctrl+V. You can add many files at once, up to 80 MB each.
- In Convert to, PNG is already selected; you can switch between JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF at any time and the preview updates instantly.
- Set the Quality: 100% writes a lossless PNG with every pixel kept, while lower values (the default is 90%) apply smart palette compression with 256 colours or fewer, which keeps transparency and makes the file smaller.
- Transparency is kept automatically in the PNG output, so logos and cut-outs stay transparent.
- If needed, open Resize (exact size, maximum size or percentage) and More options for a DPI value and a file-name pattern.
- Compare the original and the result with the before/after slider, then download each file or click Download all (ZIP).
Tips for the best result
- Set the quality slider to 100% for photos and for anything you are going to edit further; that gives a true lossless PNG.
- For icons, stickers and flat illustrations, the default palette compression usually looks identical and saves a lot of space.
- Want a smaller file without transparency? Try WebP to JPG; to go back to WebP later use PNG to WebP.
- Printing the result? Under More options you can write a DPI value (72 to 600) into JPG and PNG files without changing the pixels.
Private, free and fast
The conversion runs entirely on your device: your browser reads the WebP images, draws them on a canvas and encodes the PNG files locally. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so private photos and client work stay on your computer. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit, and settings changes are applied live to every file in the list.

Frequently asked questions
Does WebP to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. PNG has a full alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent pixels are kept exactly.
Is converting WebP to PNG lossless?
At 100% quality the PNG stores the decoded image pixel for pixel. Lower settings use palette compression for smaller files.
Why is the PNG bigger than the WebP?
WebP compresses much more efficiently than PNG. A lossless PNG of a photo can easily be several times larger than the WebP it came from.
Can I convert an animated WebP to PNG?
Only the first frame is converted; PNG files created here are still images.
Are my WebP files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens in your browser on your own device, so your images never leave your computer. EXIF location and camera data are also removed from the results.
Can I convert several WebP files at once?
Yes. Select or drop as many files as you like (up to 80 MB each); they are all converted with the same settings and you can download them one by one or together as a ZIP file.
