How to convert images to WebP online
One converter for all your web images: drop JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP or TIFF files and get WebP versions ready for your site, shop or blog. It is ideal when you are moving a whole media library to WebP to speed up page loads.
What is a WebP file?
WebP is Google's modern web image format, designed to replace both JPG and PNG on websites. Some older software, print services, office programs and upload forms still refuse WebP files. WebP is the go-to format for lighter pages and better Core Web Vitals scores. WebP supports lossy and lossless compression, full transparency and animation in a single format.
Why choose GIF?
GIF dates from 1987 and is still the best-known format for short looping animations. GIF is limited to 256 colours per frame, so photos show banding and dithering. GIF supports simple on/off transparency but not the soft edges of a real alpha channel. Animated GIFs are heavy: a few seconds of motion can easily weigh several megabytes.
What changes when you convert JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF to WebP
Every file is decoded in your browser and re-encoded as WebP at 85% quality by default. Photos from JPG typically lose 25 to 35% of their weight, PNG screenshots and graphics often much more, and uncompressed BMP or TIFF files shrink dramatically. Transparency from PNG and GIF is kept in the WebP. Animated GIFs are the exception to be aware of: only the first frame is converted, so the result is a still image. Multi-page TIFFs produce one WebP per page.
How to convert JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF to WebP
- Drop your JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF files onto the upload area, click to browse, or paste an image with Ctrl+V. You can add many files at once, up to 80 MB each.
- In Convert to, WebP is already selected; you can switch between JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF at any time and the preview updates instantly.
- Adjust the Quality slider (default 85%) or switch to Target size and enter a limit in KB; the tool then finds the highest quality that fits.
- Transparency is kept automatically in the WebP output, so logos and cut-outs stay transparent.
- If needed, open Resize (exact size, maximum size or percentage) and More options for a DPI value and a file-name pattern.
- Compare the original and the result with the before/after slider, then download each file or click Download all (ZIP).
Tips for the best result
- Mixing photos and graphics in one batch is fine, but check screenshots with small text in the before/after view; raise quality if letters look soft.
- Keep a JPG or PNG fallback for platforms that reject WebP, or create one later with the WebP to JPG converter.
- Use the file-name pattern under More options, for example {name}-web, to keep converted copies apart from your originals.
Private, free and fast
The conversion runs entirely on your device: your browser reads the JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF images, draws them on a canvas and encodes the WebP files locally. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so private photos and client work stay on your computer. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit, and settings changes are applied live to every file in the list.

Frequently asked questions
Which formats can I convert to WebP here?
JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF. Multi-page TIFFs produce one WebP per page.
Does it convert animated GIFs to animated WebP?
No. Only the first frame of an animated GIF is converted, so the WebP is a still image.
What quality should I use for WebP?
85% (the default) is a good balance for photos. Use 90 to 100% for screenshots with text and 70 to 80% when size matters most.
Will WebP images work on my website?
Yes, all current browsers display WebP. Some email clients and older apps may not, so keep your originals.
Are my JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens in your browser on your own device, so your images never leave your computer. EXIF location and camera data are also removed from the results.
Can I convert several JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF files at once?
Yes. Select or drop as many files as you like (up to 80 MB each); they are all converted with the same settings and you can download them one by one or together as a ZIP file.
