How to resize an image for a Facebook cover
The cover photo is the wide image across the top of a Facebook profile or page. On desktop it is displayed at 820 × 312 pixels, while phones show a taller, narrower section of it. Uploading an image with the wrong proportions means Facebook decides the crop for you.
This resizer creates an exact 820 × 312 pixel cover with Crop to fill, so the banner is completely filled and you decide which part of the picture is kept. For a sharper result on high-resolution screens, you can type a larger size with the same ratio, such as 1640 × 624.
How to use the Facebook Cover Photo Resizer
- Drop your images onto the upload area, click it to choose files, or paste an image with Ctrl+V. This page accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP files, many at once and up to 80 MB each.
- Keep 820 × 312, or enter 1640 × 624 for extra sharpness on Retina displays.
- Choose the crop position so faces, products or text stay in view, keeping key content in the centre because phones crop the sides.
- Check the result with the before/after slider: drag the divider across the preview and read the new dimensions, file size, quality and percentage saved underneath. Any change to the settings re-processes every image automatically.
- Download a single image, or use Download all (ZIP) for the whole batch. Under More options you can also set a DPI value and a file-name pattern with {name}, {w} and {h}.
Cover photo tips
- Centre the message. Mobile shows roughly the middle 640 pixels of the width, so place text and faces there.
- Mind the profile picture. On profiles it overlaps the lower left of the cover.
- Other networks. There are also X header and LinkedIn banner resizers.
Desktop vs mobile display
On desktop the cover appears wide at about 820 × 312 pixels; on phones Facebook shows a taller area of roughly 640 × 360 pixels, cutting the left and right edges. A safe approach is to design at 1640 × 624, keep text and faces in the central area, and avoid small text that becomes unreadable on phones.
Facebook adjusts its layouts occasionally, so preview the cover on both desktop and mobile after uploading and adjust the crop position if needed.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Facebook cover photo size?
Facebook displays cover photos at 820 × 312 pixels on desktop; 1640 × 624 gives a sharper result on high-resolution screens.
Why is my cover photo cropped on my phone?
The mobile app shows a taller, narrower part of the cover, cutting the sides. Keep important content in the centre.
Can I keep the whole image?
Switch to Fit with background to keep everything and fill the remaining space with a colour.
Which format is best?
JPG for photos; PNG for covers with logos or text, which can stay sharper.
Is a page cover the same size as a profile cover?
Both use the same wide format; the main difference is where the profile picture overlaps.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The images are processed locally in your browser and never leave your device. Closing the tab discards them.
