How to crop an image into a circle

Use this circle crop tool to turn any photo or logo into a round picture with a transparent background. It is the quickest way to make a round avatar for Discord, Slack, GitHub or WhatsApp, a round team photo for a website or a circle logo for an email signature. Everything is drawn in your browser.

How to crop an image into a circle

  1. Click the upload area and choose a JPG, PNG or other image.
  2. Keep Perfect Circle selected, or open the Shapes tab for another shape.
  3. In the Borders tab, pick a border style, width and color, or No Border.
  4. Check the live preview.
  5. Click Download to save the round PNG.

Shapes, borders and background

Besides the perfect circle there are ten more shapes: Oval, Rounded Square (with a corner radius slider), Hexagon, Octagon, Star (3 to 12 points with adjustable depth), Heart, Diamond, Cloud, Flower and a Custom Polygon with 3 to 20 sides. Your image fills the shape, centered and scaled so there are no empty gaps.

Borders can be solid, dashed, dotted or a gradient between two colors, from 0 to 20 px wide, with any color and opacity. The background outside the shape stays transparent by default, or you can fill it with a solid color or a gradient if you need a filled square.

800 x 800 pixels is larger than the avatar slots of common apps, so they can scale it down without blur.

Common uses

  • Discord and gaming avatars: crop your picture into a circle so it fits the round frame exactly.
  • Team pages and email signatures: give every headshot the same round look.
  • Round logos and stickers: a transparent PNG drops onto any background.
  • Presentations: round photos look cleaner on slides than square ones.

Tips for a clean circle crop

  • Start from a photo where the face or logo sits in the middle, because the image is centered inside the circle.
  • A square image gives the most predictable result; crop wide photos square first with our image cropper.
  • Keep the transparent background unless the platform asks for a filled square.

The tool is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. Your image never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop an image into a circle?

Upload the image, keep Perfect Circle selected and click Download. You get an 800 x 800 PNG where everything outside the circle is transparent.

Is the background transparent?

Yes, by default. You can switch to a solid color or a gradient background if you need a filled square instead.

Can I make a round Discord profile picture with this?

Yes. Circle crop your picture and upload the PNG to Discord. The 800 x 800 size is larger than Discord needs, so it stays sharp after Discord scales it down.

Can I add a border around the circle?

Yes. Choose a solid, dashed, dotted or gradient border, set the width up to 20 px, pick the color and adjust the opacity.

What size is the round image?

The download is always an 800 x 800 pixel PNG. Most platforms scale it down to their avatar size automatically.

Does it work with any photo shape?

Yes. The image is centered and scaled to fill the circle. For full control over what ends up inside the circle, crop the photo square first.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The circle crop is made in your browser and the image never leaves your device.
