How to change the color of an object in a picture

Want to see a red jacket in navy, a product in every colour of the range, or a photo with a cooler overall tone? The Color Changer recolours images directly in your browser. Select the part you want to change with a magic wand, a brush or a rectangle, choose the new colour and apply it while the original shading is preserved. You can also tint the whole image, fine-tune hue, saturation and lightness, or remap the picture to a colour-theory palette.

How to change the color of an object in a photo

  1. Upload an image (any format your browser can open, up to 10 MB). The tool immediately lists the 12 dominant colours it finds.
  2. Keep the Selective mode and pick a selection tool: Magic selects the connected area of similar colour you click on, Brush lets you paint the area (5 to 150 px), Rectangle selects a box. Use Show Mask to see the selection in red and Clear Mask to start again.
  3. Set the Tolerance (5 to 100): low values select only very close shades, higher values also catch shadows and highlights of the same colour.
  4. Choose the target colour with the colour picker or click one of the detected colours.
  5. Adjust Opacity, Feather and the blend mode, click Apply Colors, compare with the original and download the PNG.

Colour modes

  • Selective: replaces the colour only inside your selection. With Preserve Luminosity on (the default), the new hue and saturation are applied while each pixel keeps its own lightness, so folds, textures and shadows stay believable.
  • Global: moves every pixel to the hue of your target colour while keeping its saturation and lightness, like a strong colour tint.
  • HSL: sliders for hue (-180° to +180°), saturation, lightness, brightness, contrast, warmth, vibrance and tint (each -100 to +100) to correct or restyle the whole photo.
  • Harmony: choose a base hue and a scheme (complementary, analogous, triadic, tetradic or monochromatic); each pixel is shifted to the nearest hue of that palette for a coherent, graphic look.
  • Blend modes: Normal, Multiply, Screen, Overlay, Color and Hue, plus an opacity slider from 0 to 100%.

Practical uses and tips

Online shops can show colour variants of a mug, T-shirt or sofa from a single product photo, and designers can test a brand colour on a mock-up before printing. For the cleanest result, work on objects with fairly even colour and clear edges; highly patterned fabrics or colours that also appear in the background need a brush mask rather than the magic wand. Start with a tolerance around 30, increase it until the whole object is covered, and add a little feather so the edge blends smoothly. Very dark or almost white areas carry little colour, so keep Preserve Luminosity on and expect subtle changes there.

Why use this color changer

The whole process runs locally with the canvas API: your image is never uploaded, there is no account and no watermark. The result is rendered at the original resolution of your photo and saved as a lossless PNG, so you can reuse it in a shop listing, presentation or design file without losing detail.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change the color of something in a picture?

Upload the photo, select the object with the Magic, Brush or Rectangle tool, choose the new colour and click Apply Colors. Preserve Luminosity keeps the original shadows so the new colour looks natural.

Can I replace one color with another without affecting the rest?

Yes. In Selective mode only the pixels inside your selection change. Use a lower tolerance or a brush mask when similar colours appear elsewhere in the image.

Why does the new color look flat or fake?

Make sure Preserve Luminosity is on, reduce the opacity a little and add some feather. Very light, very dark or heavily textured areas hold little colour and are harder to recolour convincingly.

Can I change the hue of the whole image?

Yes. Use Global mode to tint everything towards one colour, or HSL mode to shift the hue by up to 180° and adjust saturation, lightness, warmth and vibrance.

Does the tool reduce image quality?

No. The image is processed at its original resolution and saved as a lossless PNG.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
