How to use it: Hours Calculator (Time Card)
This hours calculator is a weekly time card. Enter a start time, an end time and an unpaid break for each day and it totals the hours worked, including overnight shifts that end after midnight.
Set your hourly rate, the weekly overtime threshold (40 hours by default) and the overtime multiplier (1.5× by default) to see regular hours, overtime hours and gross pay. Download the whole timesheet as CSV for your manager or payroll.
How to use it
- Enter start and end times for each day you worked; clear both for a day off.
- Add the unpaid break in minutes.
- Set your hourly rate, overtime threshold and multiplier.
- Read total hours, overtime and gross pay, and export the CSV.
How it is calculated
Hours per day = end − start − break (an end before the start counts as the next day). Regular hours = min(total, threshold); overtime = total − threshold; pay = regular × rate + overtime × rate × multiplier.
Worked example
Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute break is 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week. Add a Saturday shift of 10:00 to 15:00 and the week is 45 hours: 40 regular plus 5 overtime. At $20/hour and 1.5× overtime, gross pay is $800 + $150 = $950.
Who uses it
- Hourly employees checking their paycheck
- Freelancers billing clients by the hour
- Managers approving weekly timesheets
- Shift workers with overnight shifts
Tips
- Enter only unpaid breaks; paid breaks count as worked time.
- Some states and countries calculate overtime per day (e.g. after 8 hours): adjust the threshold to match your rules.
- Keep the CSV as a record in case of a payroll dispute.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate hours worked?
Subtract the start time from the end time and then subtract unpaid breaks. 08:30 to 17:00 with a 30-minute lunch is 8 hours.
How is overtime calculated?
In the US, hours above 40 in a week are usually paid at 1.5× the regular rate. Set the threshold and multiplier to match your contract.
How do I enter a night shift?
Just enter the start (e.g. 22:00) and end (06:00); an end time earlier than the start is counted as the next day.
How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal?
Divide the minutes by 60: 7 h 45 min is 7.75 hours. The total is shown in both formats.
Does it calculate taxes?
No, it shows gross pay before taxes and deductions.
Is this calculator free and private?
Yes. It is completely free, needs no account and runs entirely in your browser, so the numbers you type are never sent to a server or stored.
