How to use it: CGPA to Percentage Calculator
Most Indian boards and universities grade on a 10-point CGPA scale, but job applications, entrance exams and foreign universities often ask for a percentage. This calculator converts between the two instantly.
It uses the widely accepted CGPA × 9.5 formula introduced by CBSE, lets you change the factor for universities that use 10 or another number, and shows the alternative (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 rule used by some universities, such as Mumbai University's older scheme.
How to use it
- Enter your CGPA (out of 10) or drag the slider.
- Keep the factor at 9.5 or set your university's factor.
- Read the percentage instantly.
- To go the other way, enter a percentage to get the matching CGPA.
How it is calculated
Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 (CBSE and many universities). Reverse: CGPA = percentage ÷ 9.5. Some universities use percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 or CGPA × 10 instead.
Worked example
A CGPA of 8.2 becomes 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.9%. A 9.0 CGPA is 85.5% and a perfect 10 is 95%. Going back, 75% ÷ 9.5 = 7.89 CGPA. With the (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 rule, 8.2 would be 74.5%.
Who uses it
- Job and internship applications that ask for a percentage
- Admission forms for postgraduate courses and entrance exams
- Students applying abroad who need to explain their grades
- CBSE class 10 and 12 students converting their CGPA
Tips
- Always check your marksheet or university rules: many universities print the conversion formula on the back.
- For applications abroad, agencies such as WES may calculate their own equivalent.
- Round only at the end: 77.9% is more accurate than rounding the CGPA first.
