How to use it: Tip Calculator
This tip calculator takes the mental math out of paying the bill. Enter the amount, pick a tip percentage and see the tip and the total instantly, then add more people to split it evenly.
You can tip on the pre-tax amount by entering the tax shown on the receipt, and round either the total or each person's share up to a whole number so nobody has to deal with cents.

How it is calculated
Tip = (bill − tax) × tip% ÷ 100. Total = bill + tip. Each share = total ÷ people.
Worked example
A $86.40 dinner bill with $6.40 tax, tipping 20% on the pre-tax $80, means a $16 tip and a $102.40 total. Split four ways that is $25.60 each, or $26 each if you round shares up: a $17.60 tip in the end.

How much should I tip?
In the US 15 to 20% is the norm for sit-down restaurants, about 10 to 15% for delivery and 15 to 20% for hairdressers and taxis. Customs differ by country.
How do I calculate a 20% tip?
Move the decimal point one place left and double it: on a $45 bill, $4.50 × 2 = $9.
Should I tip on the total before or after tax?
Tipping on the pre-tax amount is common and fair; enter the tax shown on the receipt to do that.
How do I split the bill with a tip?
