How to use it: GPA Calculator
This GPA calculator turns your letter grades into a grade point average on the standard 4.0 scale used by most US colleges and high schools. Add each course with its grade and credit hours, and the GPA updates instantly: weighted by credits, just like your transcript.
To see your cumulative GPA, enter your current GPA and the credits you have already completed: the calculator combines them with this semester. A second mode converts a 10-point CGPA to a percentage for Indian and other universities.
How to use it
- Add a row for each course (name is optional).
- Choose the letter grade and enter the credit hours.
- Read your semester GPA and total grade points.
- Optionally add your previous GPA and credits for the cumulative GPA.
How it is calculated
GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits. Grade points: A/A+ 4.0, A− 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B− 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C− 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0, F 0. Cumulative GPA combines previous and new grade points over all credits.
Worked example
Courses: A in a 3-credit class (12 points), B+ in a 4-credit class (13.2), A− in 3 credits (11.1) and B in 2 credits (6). Total 42.3 points over 12 credits gives a semester GPA of 3.52. With a previous 3.20 GPA over 45 credits, the cumulative GPA becomes (144 + 42.3) ÷ 57 = 3.27.
Who uses it
- College students tracking their GPA each semester
- High-school students preparing college applications
- Students checking scholarship or honours requirements
- Planning which grades you need to raise your GPA
Tips
- High-credit courses move your GPA most: focus effort there.
- Some schools give A+ 4.3 or use weighted GPAs for honours/AP classes; check your handbook.
- Pass/fail courses usually do not count towards GPA.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my GPA?
Multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up and divide by the total credits. The calculator does this as you type.
What is a good GPA?
3.0 (B) is a common minimum for good standing and many programs; 3.5 and above is considered strong; 3.7+ often qualifies for honours.
How do I calculate cumulative GPA?
Enter your current cumulative GPA and completed credits under Previous semesters. The calculator weights old and new grades by their credits.
Does an A+ count more than an A?
On most 4.0 scales A+ and A are both 4.0. Some schools use 4.3 for A+; adjust expectations if yours does.
Can I convert CGPA to a percentage here?
Yes. Switch to CGPA ↔ percentage for the 10-point scale used in India and elsewhere.
Is this calculator free and private?
Yes. It is completely free, needs no account and runs entirely in your browser, so the numbers you type are never sent to a server or stored.
