About this tool

This online voice recorder records your voice straight from the browser, with no app to install. Choose a microphone, watch the level meter, press record and talk. You can pause and resume, record several takes, play each one back and download it as MP3, WAV or the original file. The sound is captured and converted on your own device, so it is never uploaded.

How to record your voice online

  1. Click Turn on microphone and allow access when the browser asks.
  2. Pick your microphone in the list and check that the level meter moves when you speak.
  3. Click Start recording. Use Pause and Resume as often as you like.
  4. Click Stop and save. The take appears in the list with a player.
  5. Download it as MP3, WAV or the original file.

Which format should I download?

MP3, 128 kbpsabout 1 MBSharing, email, voice messages and any player
Original (WebM with Opus, or M4A in Safari)about 1 MBThe exact recording, with no extra conversion
WAV, 16 bitabout 6 MB mono, 11 MB stereo at 48 kHzEditing in Audacity, GarageBand or a DAW

Tips for a clear recording

  • Keep the meter in the middle while you talk. If it says the sound is clipping, move back from the microphone.
  • A headset or USB microphone close to your mouth sounds far better than a laptop's built in mic.
  • Noise suppression and echo cancellation are on by default for speech. Turn both off to record music or an instrument as it really sounds.
  • Recordings live only in this tab. Download the ones you want before you close or reload the page.
  • Not sure your microphone works? Check it first with the mic test.

Need only part of a take? Cut it with the MP3 cutter. Want a transcript? Turn the recording into text with speech to text.

Features

  • Recorded on your device: your audio is never uploaded

Frequently asked questions

How do I record my voice online?

Click Turn on microphone, allow access, then click Start recording and speak. When you click Stop and save, the recording appears on the page with a player and download buttons for MP3, WAV and the original file.

Is this voice recorder free, and is there a time limit?

It is free, with no sign up and no watermark. The tool sets no time limit; very long recordings are only limited by your device's memory, so download long takes as soon as you finish them.

Can I save my recording as MP3?

Yes. Click MP3 under any take and it is converted to a 128 kbps MP3 in your browser and downloaded. You can also download a WAV for editing or the original WebM or M4A file.

Why can't the site use my microphone?

The browser needs your permission. Click the lock or camera icon next to the address, allow the microphone, and try again. If another app such as a call is using the mic, close it first.

Are my recordings uploaded or saved online?

No. Audio is recorded and converted on your device and is never sent to a server. Takes stay in this browser tab only, so they are gone when you close or reload the page unless you download them.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in current Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on phones and computers. Safari records M4A instead of WebM; the MP3 and WAV downloads work the same everywhere.
