About this tool
This tool lets you extract audio from a video and keep it as a separate file. Drop in a phone clip, a Zoom or Teams recording, a screen capture or a downloaded lecture, and save just the sound as MP3, M4A or WAV. Before you convert, the tool reads the video and shows its audio codec, channels and sample rate, so you know what you are working with. Everything runs in your browser and the video is never uploaded.
How to extract audio from a video
- Drop the video on the page or click to choose it.
- Pick the format that fits your goal (see the table below).
- Set the quality, and optionally a start and end time or Mono.
- Click Convert, preview the audio and download it.
Which format should I extract to?
| Your goal | Format | Setting |
|---|---|---|
| Listen on any phone, car or player | MP3 | 192 kbps |
| Keep it in Apple Music or on an iPhone | M4A (AAC) | 160 or 192 kbps |
| Edit in Audacity, Premiere or a DAW | WAV | Stereo |
| A meeting, lecture or podcast | MP3 | 128 kbps, Mono |
| A ringtone or short sound clip | MP3 | 192 kbps with trim |
Where your video comes from
- iPhone: videos are MOV or MP4 with AAC audio at 48 kHz. Send them to your computer with AirDrop, or open this page in Safari on the phone.
- Android and most cameras: MP4 with AAC audio, ready to drop in.
- Zoom, Teams and Meet recordings: MP4 files. Extract the speech as a 128 kbps mono MP3 to make the file tiny.
- Screen recordings from OBS or browser tools are often MKV or WebM with Opus audio. Both work.
Things to know
- If you see "no audio track", the video was recorded without sound, or the sound is in a separate file.
- M4A export needs Chrome, Edge or Safari, which provide the AAC encoder. MP3 and WAV work everywhere.
- The audio panel shows the source codec. Matching its quality is enough: a higher setting only makes a bigger file.
Want the words rather than the sound? Speech to text turns the extracted audio, or the video itself, into a transcript. Need the video to be smaller instead? Use the video compressor.

Frequently asked questions
How do I extract audio from a video for free?
Drop the video on this page, choose MP3, M4A or WAV, and click Convert. The audio track is saved as its own file that you can download right away, with no sign-up or watermark.
Which format is best for extracted audio?
MP3 for listening anywhere, M4A for Apple devices and a slightly smaller file at the same quality, and WAV when you want to edit the sound without any further loss.
Can I extract audio from an iPhone video?
Yes. iPhone MOV and MP4 videos work. Open this page in Safari on the iPhone and choose the video from Photos, or move it to a computer first with AirDrop.
Can I extract only part of the audio?
Yes. Enter a start and end time in seconds or as minutes and seconds, for example 2:10 and 3:45, and only that section is saved.
Why does it say the video has no audio track?
The file contains only pictures. Some screen recorders and cameras save sound separately or not at all when the microphone was off, so there is nothing to extract.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The audio is decoded and saved inside your browser on your own device, so the video never leaves your computer or phone.
