About this tool

This free online screen recorder captures your screen in the browser, with no download and no watermark. Record a single tab, one app window or your entire screen, add the sound and your voice from the microphone, and save the video as MP4 or WebM. The recording is made by your browser on your own computer and is never uploaded.

How to record your screen

  1. Choose the format (MP4 or WebM), the frame rate and the sound you want.
  2. Click Start recording and pick a tab, a window or your entire screen in the browser's dialog.
  3. To include sound from a tab, keep Share tab audio switched on in that dialog.
  4. After the countdown, do what you want to record. Use Pause and Resume if you need a break.
  5. Click Stop recording (or Stop sharing in the browser bar), watch the preview and click Download.

Tips

  • Recording a single tab gives the sharpest result and keeps your other windows and notifications out of the video.
  • Use 60 fps for games and fast scrolling, 30 fps for tutorials, slides and calls. 30 fps makes smaller files.
  • Long recordings are held in memory until you download them, so save the video before you close the tab.
  • Got a WebM file? Convert it with the WebM to MP4 converter. Cut the start and end with the video trimmer, and shrink it for email with the video compressor.
  • Phones and tablets do not let websites capture the screen. Use a computer, or your phone's built in screen recording.

Your recording stays private: there is no upload, no account and no watermark.

Frequently asked questions

How do I record my screen online for free?

Click Start recording, choose a tab, window or your entire screen in the browser dialog and click Share. When you are done, click Stop recording and download the video. There is nothing to install, and the video has no watermark.

Does the screen recorder record sound?

Yes. In Chrome and Edge it can record the sound of a shared tab, and of the whole system on Windows and ChromeOS. It can also record your microphone, and when both are on they are mixed into one sound track.

Is there a time limit or a watermark?

There is no watermark and the tool sets no time limit. The video is kept in your browser's memory until you download it, so very long recordings depend on how much memory your computer has.

Can I save the recording as MP4?

Yes, when your browser can record MP4, which recent Chrome, Edge and Safari can. Other browsers record WebM, which you can turn into MP4 with our WebM to MP4 converter.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

No. Mobile browsers do not allow websites to capture the screen. Use the tool on a Windows, Mac, Linux or ChromeOS computer, or your phone's built in screen recording.

Is my screen recording uploaded?

No. The browser records the screen on your computer and the video is saved straight to your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so private meetings and documents stay private.
