About this tool
Most email services cap attachments at 20 or 25 MB, and even a short phone video is larger than that. Instead of sending a cloud link the recipient has to open, you can compress the video for email and attach it directly. This page starts with the 25 MB email target selected; type a smaller number for stricter providers. The MP4 you get opens on any computer or phone, and the compression runs in your browser, so the video is never uploaded to us.
How to compress a video for email
- Drop the video on the page or click to choose it.
- By file size with 25 MB (email) is selected. For Outlook or iCloud Mail, type 20 in the MB box.
- For videos longer than about 5 minutes, choose 720p or 480p.
- Click Compress video and download the MP4.
- Attach the file to your email as usual.
Attachment limits by email provider
| Provider | Attachment limit | Target to type |
|---|---|---|
| Gmail | 25 MB | 25 MB, or 22 MB to be safe |
| Yahoo Mail | 25 MB | 25 MB |
| Outlook.com and Hotmail | 20 MB | 20 MB |
| iCloud Mail | 20 MB | 20 MB |
| Company mail (Exchange) | often 10 to 25 MB | ask IT, or try 10 MB |
Email encodes attachments for sending, which adds overhead, so a file right at the limit is sometimes refused. If that happens, go 2 or 3 MB lower.
How long can a 25 MB video be?
- 1 minute: about 3.2 Mbps, full 1080p quality.
- 2 minutes: about 1.5 Mbps, still good at 1080p, great at 720p.
- 5 minutes: about 560 kbps, choose 480p.
- 10 minutes: about 230 kbps, choose 360p.
With sound, 25 MB holds about 15 minutes at most. For anything longer, a cloud link is the better choice.
Good uses
- A screen recording for a bug report or a how-to for a colleague.
- A short video CV or a portfolio clip for a job application.
- Homework, a class presentation or a family clip for someone who does not use chat apps.
Video does not play inside the body of most emails, but a GIF does. For a short silent loop that plays right in the message, try the video to GIF converter. For quality levels and other sizes, use the main video compressor.

Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum video size for email?
Gmail and Yahoo allow 25 MB of attachments per email, Outlook.com and iCloud Mail 20 MB. Company email is often lower. This page targets 25 MB and lets you type any smaller size.
How do I compress a video to send by Gmail?
Drop the video on this page, keep the 25 MB email target, click Compress video and download the MP4. Attach it in Gmail with the paper clip icon. If Gmail still offers a Drive link, compress to 22 MB.
How do I compress a video for Outlook?
Choose By file size, type 20 in the MB box and compress. Outlook.com allows 20 MB; work accounts may allow less, so ask your IT team if 20 MB is refused.
Why is my 24 MB video still too large for email?
Attachments are encoded before sending, which makes them bigger. Compress to a target 2 or 3 MB under the limit, for example 22 MB for Gmail.
Will the recipient be able to play it?
Yes. The result is a standard MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, which opens in Windows, macOS, iPhone and Android without any extra app.
Is my video uploaded to your servers?
No. The video is compressed in your browser by your own device. It only leaves your computer when you send the email.
